Iqaluit International Airport Improvement

Nunavut is a unique, northern Canadian territory composed of a series of islands and communities. Airports are the only all-season transportation links to this region, making this project a necessary component to life in Nunavut.

Located in the capital city of Nunavut, the new Iqaluit International Airport will replace the original 1940 Frobisher Bay Air Force airport, and will continue to play a strategic technical support role for both military and civilian aviation.

Comren is proud to be working closely with Bouygues Building Canada on this exciting logistical project.

The project will include the construction of a new airport building and a new combined-services building that will house the fire-fighting vehicles/support equipment, and heavy runway and apron maintenance equipment. The construction of this project is scheduled for completion early 2017 and in full operation by September 2017.

2013 Outstanding Project Award

We are proud to announce that Comren has been awarded “Outstanding Project of the Year” award for Interior Commercial (British Columbia) — Our Lady of Assumption Church project

Our Lady of Assumption Church

Location: Port Coquitlam
Contractor: Comren Contracting Inc.
ArchitectTRB Architecture + Interior Design
Team: Cascadia Design Products, Pacific West Systems Supply, GWP Wallworks, Steeler Inc.

Comren Contracting Inc. completed all of the steel-stud framing, insulation, drywall, and acoustic wall and ceiling panel work on Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Port Coquitlam near Vancouver, B.C.

Acoustics were of particular concern due to the nature of the church’s activities — sermons, pipe organ music and hymns -and closeness to residential properties. Comren took special care with the detailed work and specific requirements set by the church’s acoustical engineer.

Crews were challenged with framing many small and unusually shaped windows, domed ceilings and window heads.

Finally, Comren suggested alternate products that met strict acoustic and flame-spread ratings while saving money and shortening the construction schedule.

Judge’s comment: “The remarkable architecture of Our Lady of the Assumption gives the feeling of stepping back to a time when cathedrals were designed to be breathtaking and awe-inspiring to those attending worship. As one judge observed, ‘It gives the impression that the hand of God alone supports the expansive arches and magnificent ceilings.’”

Hudson’s Bay

Comren is excited to have been a part of the renovation of this historic building. Hudson’s Bay has so far spent more than $40 million on renovations to its downtown Vancouver store, which is larger than the renovation budgets for its flagship stores in Toronto and Montreal. The renovations included a rejuvenated building exterior look, the opening of one of the largest TOPSHOP and TOPMAN stores in the world, the creation of The Room, and the new Men’s store on the 6th floor.
